This March marks 21 years Ukiah has been our home. Through ups and downs, pandemics and wildfires, our little cafe has stayed strong. We appreciate those who have supported us from the beginning, as well as those just discovering our small town’s best-kept secret. We could not have done it without you.

About Mama’s
We are a small, local cafe that has been scratch cooking & baking with thoughtful sourced ingredients since 2001. From cage free eggs, to locally sourced microgreens, we peel, grate, and chop only the freshest vegetables, fruits and meats available.
Our brewed coffee is roasted by Mclaughlin Coffee Roasting Company, a family-owned and operated roaster out of Emeryville. Our espresso is from Mr. Espresso, the only coffee roaster that roasts their beans exclusively over a fire fueled by Oak Wood. Located in Oakland since 1978, their award winning espresso beans and coffee are a delicious compliment to our menu.

Heidi Schorno Shimshak
OWNER
Mama herself. As our soon to be hungry customers sleep peacefully in their beds, Heidi is up and out the door before the sun has risen. Baking all your favorite treats like the Cinnamon Sour Cream Muffin or Maple Pecan Scones, you will be hooked after the first bite! Once all the treats are out of the oven, Heidi heads over to the stove, ready for the meal orders to start filling through. From baker to head cook, she makes the impossible look possible.
Sage Shimshak
BAKER
Sage has been part of the team since he was 9 years old. His first job was delivering fresh muffins and breadsticks, in the early morning hours, on the back of his bicycle. Now, he is baking up our yeasted baked goods. Sage spends his day kneading, proofing and baking several pounds of flour daily. From our one-of-a-kind Breadsticks and Buttermilk Biscuits, to our rolls, waffles and sourdough pancakes, he is kept busy baking up fresh delicious food for all of Ukiah to enjoy!
Dixie Shimshak
MANAGER
When a question needs answering, or a problem needs solving, everyone turns to Dixie. Dixie was born the month we opened the cafe and has grown-up with the restaurant business flowing through her veins. From the front of the house to the back, she keeps the cafe moving smoothly. Look for her warm friendly smile either behind the bakery counter pulling espresso shots, in the dining room serving hot delicious food, or over the hot stove scrambling eggs. Dixie is the thread that stitches it all together.
